Stephen Fleming's interests center on performance-based, student-centered instruction in Chinese language. He is currently involved in a federally-funded project to develop and deliver a 2-year distance-education curriculum in Chinese, linking classrooms on several islands through interactive television, electronic mail, and telephone. This project will serve as a model for distance-education programs in other less commonly taught languages. He also teaches at the Chinese School in the summer language immersion programs of Middlebury College, VT.
