Professor Englert is a scientist who has held positions at the University of Cologne, Germany; UC San Diego and San Jose State University, California; Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand; and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is currently conducting and managing active programs in space and social sciences. Within the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) his focus is on higher education systems within China and the Asia-Pacific as well as higher education of indigenous peoples and nationalities in China, New Zealand, Canada, and Hawaii. Within the International Center of Climate and Society (ICCS) his focus is on environmental and economic relevance of higher education efforts with a focus on Asia. At the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP) he is conducting Mars research within the NASA funded Mars Odyssey Mission. He is Guest Professor at several Chinese universities, and a Scholar in Residence at the Stout Research Center, Victoria University of Wellington. Professor Englert contributes to both national and international higher education governance and policy development as representative of IAU, member of IAUP and other national and international Higher Education Associations, working closely with government and inter-governmental agencies.
